One Night Stay/Cruz Bay/St. John (5 replies)

My sister is treating herself to a belated 50th birthday and coming down for a week to visit me on Water Island May 13-May 20th. She's leaving her husband and kids at home. She really also wants to see St. John and though I know we could pull off an adventure to St. John in one day......I was thinking....wouldn't it be nice to be unhurried and leisurely enjoy time on St. John - beaches, shopping, dining.....drinking - and have an overnite stay (leaving my husband at home on Water Island). It would just be two sisters who haven't had any time alone since we were in our mid to late teens living at home with our parents in southern Indiana. Time to catch up and enjoy special time together. So far, I'm at the "idea stage". Wondering.....any recommendations for low/economically priced accomodation for one night stay in/very near Cruz Bay? How late do the Safari's run on STJ? I suppose we will pay the prevailing taxi association rate? Can we get to/from STJ beaches on the Safari? Or, should we commandeer a taxi for the day? I've tried renting a car for the day on STJ before with no luck......that's why I'm thinking we'd have to get by with taxi/public transportation. Where should we have a nice dinner in the Cruz Bay area? Thanks in advance!
