EVA - Upgrading Elite to PL

I'm flying EWR-TPE on Sat Aug 9, 2008 on a travel agent purchased ticket in Elite class.

My company has me going pretty much straight to meetings upon the 5:30am arrival.

Before I try to call EVA, which will probably be an adventure itself, does anybody have any ideas or experiences regarding buying up from Elite to PL? Either beforehand or at check in?
I believe fare class is L outbound and Q return. No status on EVA.
