Saw the dr. today to get the results from my MRI, and the word is Osteochondritis Dissecans (OCD) of the knee -- basically a pothole of dead bone at the end of my femur. Dr. said that the most likely cause was a blow to the knee. Well several years ago, I slipped on a wet floor in a grocery store and went down on my right knee. So I am now scheduled for outpatient surgery on June 19th (post-Disney). At that time, the dr. will do a scope of my knee to clean out any debris and get it ready for the next step. Then he will make an incision along the inside side of my kneecap and lay it over to get at the lesion. Depending on how bad it is will determine the next step -- drilling thru the cartlidge to allow blood flow back to the bone, transplant of some of my own bone and cartlidge, or inplant of cadaever (sp?) bone and cartlidge. Until surgery I have to wear a J-brace Image:

All told I sent the insurance company a bill for about $700 -- $90 for the small brace and $600 for the big one. I have the small brace on right now. It is going to take some getting used to and I can tell you right now it is going to be very warm in Florida.
